Everything in creation is telling God’s story, and one of my favorite surprising places to find it is in what I call “accidental worship” songs. These are songs that have usually been written to express the force and phenomenon of love in human relationships, but end up speaking to me as a reflection of God’s love for me and/or vice-versa. Sometimes, they create a more meaningful and even holy experience than an entire service worth of officially prescribed “worship music.”
Here are some of my favorite accidental worship songs and their lyrics which speak to me (emphases mine). They’re not always perfect in their entirety, but some of the images still jump right out and illuminate my soul. I hope you love them as much as I do, and that you hear your own message of God’s love for you in your playlist today.
