This is the day I’ve been waiting for my whole life…or at least, since the fifth grade.
That’s when I entered a short story contest (a grade-wide competition for the best scary tale, in which I won second place) and first felt the call of writing on my life. As with so many creatives, the execution of this call has followed a path that is tortuous (and sometimes torturous as well), but I finally made it. I wrote a book, and I published it, and it is going live as we speak!
So what’s it all about? Here’s the scoop:
Who should read it:
• Individuals and families in search of Christmas devotional readings with maximum impact and minimum time commitment.
• Small groups and Sunday School classes looking for a fresh take on the Christmas story with lively discussion points
• Fans of the movie A Christmas Story (Jean Shepard and I grew up in the same hometown, though my stories take place in the 80s)
• People who love Christmas, humor, families, reading, baking, and/or Jesus
• You!
What’s included:
• A Reading/Story of the Day
• Questions for Discussion or Journaling/Personal Reflection
• Bible Verses to Enhance and Guide Discussion
• Recipe of the Day from our Real-Life Christmas Open House!
Why I wrote it:
Though I didn’t realize it at the time, my family’s annual Christmas Open House was the seat of many (if not most!) of my formative experiences in meeting and growing with God. We’ve told and retold these stories more times than I can count, but as they came into shape under my pen, I became increasingly aware of how God was at work in and among us the whole time. I believe this experience is not unique to my family – God is at work in and among all of creation all of the time – but I hope that in reading mine, your own family’s stories and traditions will come to new life as well.

One more important note before I go:
If I can do this, literally anyone can. I’ve been dreaming of writing a book since I was a child, but I’ve also been actively battling resistance to make it a reality for the last seven years, give or take. In the end, when my ambition, desperation, and dreams finally converged, the whole process only took me about six weeks, start to finish.
You can do it, too. Write a book, produce a musical, travel the world, get a new job… Whatever burns in your heart is there for a reason. We NEED you to stoke that fire and share your light!
Thanks for celebrating with me!

I know that I should have waited and read it a day at a time, and I will reread it on schedule. But I had to read the entire thing immediately. The stories were just too good.
