About/Books

Lucinda S. Sutton was born in the 1970s under another name, carrying on a long family legacy of adopting monikers that bear little or no resemblance to given names. Her first book was the KJV Bible (thanks, Mom), first comic book The Amazing Spider-Man, first in-theater movie Sleeping Beauty, and first attempt at writing for publication a wildly derivative scary story for a contest in the fifth grade (she received second place and is probably totally okay with that now). The authors who inspire and entertain her most today include Stephen King, Madeleine L’Engle, Neil Gaiman, Walter Brueggemann, Stephen King, Desmond Tutu, Dave Barry, Maya Angelou, Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, Nadia Bolz-Weber, James Baldwin, and let’s see…oh yeah, Stephen King.

Lucinda grew up with her sister and mother, all dividing their waking hours between home, church, school, and an insatiable appetite for reading. At the auspicious age of 42 (the Age and Answer to Everything)—after marrying, delivering three daughters, divorcing, and teaching/ministering in churches for decades—Lucinda finally answered the call to writing and publishing books of her own. Her Seasons series currently consists of two books, with more coming as soon as she can wrangle them from the vast wild lands of her mind and pen.

She hopes you LOVE them.

Christmas Open House is a masterpiece of nostalgia, mixed with loving amounts of gentle humor, recollections of dear, amusing relatives, and wisdom about what is always universally important in family life. Reading it gave me the feeling of opening an old, forgotten but still fragrant cedar chest filled with precious artifacts of a shared history, welcomed lovingly into the light of our rather frantic, present world of impersonal electronic communication and worship of speed for its own sake. The very sensory memories of the author take the reader back to a gentler, more innocent time, perhaps a time many of us will embrace once again as something as important as food and oxygen. Read, laugh, cry, remember, and enjoy this marvelous little book as something precious to be shared.
-John Bolinger, author of Come September: Journey of a High School Teacher and Mum’s the Word: Secrets of a Family

Words for clean and pure occur over 300 times in the Bible; this collection of meditations for the season of Lent invites readers to take a deep (contextual) and wide (for all times) look into these scriptures and stories. From Shrove (Pancake) Tuesday through Easter, daily devotions offer small groups, Sunday school classes, book clubs, and/or individual devotees a chance to explore what it means to be clean and pure in spirit—as individuals, as well as in families and communities.
